City Network "Hanseatic League of Modern Times" - "Die HANSE"

Member of City Network "Hanseatic League of Modern Times" since 1994

Founded in 1980, the Hanseatic League “DIE HANSE” is a network of 208 cities in Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden.

The purpose is to revive the spirit and the ideas of a European municipality, to promote the self-awareness and to develop the cooperation between these cities. The aim is to make a contribution to the economic, cultural, social and governmental unification of Europe.

Since 1994, the University and Hanseatic town of Greifswald actively participates in this new network of Hanseatic cities. On the occasion of the annual Hanseatic festival, Greifswald organizes citizen travels and presents itself by offering cultural and touristic attractions.

Each year, young people from Greifswald participate as representatives in the “YouthHansa”, an event as part of the international Hanseatic festival.
