Member of "Union of the Baltic Cities" since 1999

The “Union of the Baltic Cities” is a network founded in September 1991 including 96 costal cities in Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden.

The aim is to establish a close cooperation on local and regional level with focus on culture, society and economics.

The University and Hanseatic town of Greifswald participates in the consultations of the German “UBC cities” since 1997 and has been included as a member of the “Union of the Baltic Cities” in September 1999 during the general conference in Stockholm.

The membership serves to exchange information regarding all relevant areas and project-related cooperation with selected member cities on focus topics.

The office of “International Contacts/Hanse/Europe” as part of the municipality organizes the participation of Greifswald in activities of the “Union of the Baltic Cities”.

The members of the “Union of the Baltic Cities” cooperate in commissions concerning specific fields which are:

 • Economic cooperation

 • Culture

 • Education

 • Environment

 • Health and social affairs

 • Sports

 • Tourism

 • Transportation

 • Urban planning

Interested citizens and institutions of Greifswald are welcome to participate in the work of the commissions.
