The city has taken a big step closer to its goal of establishing a centre for life science and plasma technology. After applying for funding from the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Landesförderinstitut (State Development Institute) in 2014 on the basis of the conceptual design for the project, the city received a commitment from the Landesförderinstitut for a grant of a maximum of 18 million € in December 2015.
With our focus on combining the bioeconomy and plasma technology sectors in one centre, Greifswald is forging a new path towards positioning the city and the country as a major technology centre. Our flexible use concept, allocating facilities according to funding eligibility and specialism can be viewed as a significant key to the success of the centre. As a pilot project, the "Centre for Life Science and Plasma Technology" is part of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Masterplan Gesundheitswirtschaft (health care management master plan) 2020 action plan. The centre is due to be completed in 2019 with a floor area of around 5,500 m² and will then be available for occupation. Total investment of around 30.7 million € is currently anticipated.
